What is Constipation?

Now a days constipation is a common problem facing many people.Constipation is a condition when bowel moments occurs less then normal or bowel moments with stool which are hard or dry and makes difficult or painful to pass.
Constipation may be acute, which means constipation lasts suddenly or in short time,or chronic, which means constipation will not lasts suddenly may take long time,sometimes years.
Constipation is even more common in women as they get older,one in five people face chronic constipation and people of any age or race can get constipated.
It is common problem in women during pregnancy.

Constipation Symptoms

Signs and symptoms of constipation are :
  • Less bowel moments then normal
  • Hard,dry or small stools that are difficult or painful to pass
  • Pain in the rectum
  • Stomach aches
  • Abdominal pain
  • Bloating and nausea
  • Feeling of incomplete emptying the stool in rectum. 
  • Headache and malaise

Constipation is caused when stool spends too much time in the colon,as colon absorbs water from stool which makes stool hard and dry which is difficult for rectum muscles to puss out hard stool from the body.

Some factors for this cause are:-
  • Drinking less water or dehydration
  • Taking diets which are low in fiber
  • Stress
  • Medications
  • Gastrointestinal tract problems
  • Irregular eating habits
  • Not going to bathroom when bowel moments occurs
  • Life changes - like pregnancy,travel and aging
  • Metabolic disorders like Hypothyroidism and Diabetes 

How to relieve Constipation naturally?

There are so many natural ways to get rid of constipation which you can do at your own home.
  • Drinking more water
  • Eat foods which are high in fiber,both soluble fiber and insoluble fiber helps in relieve constipation
  • Drinking Coffee
  • Taking magnesium citrate
  • Eating prunes
  • Exercise

Constipation treatments

Mostly constipation resolves itself without taking treatment but in some cases need to take treatment for constipation.
Your doctor will prescribe some laxatives for chronic constipation but it should be use with care and only in difficult cases.
Doing exercise gives relief from constipation this is the best self treatment.
